Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park may be one of the smaller national parks in Tanzania, but it has a rich variety of wildlife and landscapes. From the swampy Ngurdoto Crater and alkaline lakes to dense jungle and the towering peaks of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. This is also the only park in northern Tanzania where you can easily spot the acrobatic black-and-white colobus monkey.

Momella lakes

The Momella lakes consist of seven tranquil alkaline lakes, each one having a different shade of green or blue. The mineral and algae present in these lakes attract many water birds. Migrating water birds settle on the lakes, while you can find Waterbucks, Reedbucks and giraffes at the lake shores. Sometimes the lakes host large concentrations of pink flamingos, hippos and water brirds. You can also explore the lake on a scenic canoe safari.

Ngurdoto Crater
The Ngurdoto crater is also known as the mini “Ngorongoro”. This swampy crater stretches 3 km across and is surrounded by forest. Within the crater you can see buffaloes, warthogs, elephants and a variety of monkeys and birds. There are great viewpoints around its rim where you can stop to see the animals grazing below.

Mount Meru
