Serengeti National Park
Endless plains, overwhelming wildlife, breathtaking sunsets and elephants trumpeting in the distance. Welcome to Serengeti National Park. Here you can see over a million wildebeest and zebras crowd together, hooves kick dust and lions hunt at dawn. So if you want to witness the world’s largest overland migration and the Big Five, this is the place to be. Enjoy one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Africa.
Say the ‘Wildebeest Migration’ and most of you picture grunting wildebeest and zebras crossing rivers. Dust explodes, lions stalk an easy prey, crocodiles and fast flowing wild rivers await the herds. Hence, the Great Migration is an journey full of danger and only the strongest survive. Enjoy the impressive sights of all those mammals thundering across the plains. It is truly an amazing experience to watch this nature spectacle first-hand.
If you want to spot the Big Five all in one park, the Serengeti is one of the best places to visit. With so many wildebeest and zebras present, it is no surprise the Serengeti is also home to 4,000 lions and 1,000 leopards. Observe also other animals like the cheetah, serval, pangolin, porcupine, crocodile, giraffe, python, ostrich and vultures. The abundance of wildlife you can see here is unmatched anywhere else.
The Serengeti landscape consists mainly of woodland and grassland. It has open grassland plains in the south. Savannah with acacia trees in the centre. In contrast, in the north is hilly grassland and woodland in the west. Discover that each area has its own atmosphere and wildlife. However the entire national park is dotted with small rivers, lakes, swamps and kopjes (large rocky formations).
You can go on a game drive, hot air balloon flight, walking safari or visit the Maasai rock paintings or Olduvai Gorge.
