African Safari Accommodation is as varied as the range of animals. With such an impressive diversity available, we take great care in selecting the accommodation that suits your style, taste, and budget. From rustic tented camps to exclusive safari lodges with the character of upmarket hotelsEach type of accommodation offers something unique.

Tented camps

Tented camps suit clients who want to experience a truly authentic safari and immerse themselves in the wilderness. It offers you the change of seeing wildlife close by. The camps are in general smaller and more intimate than lodges. They are set in stunning locations with great game viewing.  Don’t let the word ‘tent’ mislead you. Many tented camps are luxurious properties offering the same, or even better, comfort levels as the lodges. You can expect private spacious tents on decking platforms, with comfortable beds, furniture, flush toilets, en-suite bathrooms, and sometimes a pool. Often they are more exclusive than lodges, which is the reason they sometimes cost more than a lodge.
There are two types of tented camps: permanent and mobile. The permanent tented camps allow greater infrastructure and facilities, such as larger tents, more comfortable furnishings, flush toilets, 24-hour lighting, and more staff. The advantage of mobile tented camps is that it allows guests to follow the wildlife and be as close to animals as possible.

Lodges

Lodges are perfect for travelers who like comfort and ease and to sleep behind four solid walls. During the day you can enjoy the game drives out in the bush and in the evenings all the facilities you would find in a hotel, like a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, gift shops and much more. Safari lodges are permanent facilities with solid walls made of brick and stone or other materials. In general, lodges are much bigger than tented camps. Of course, not all lodges are created equal and they have different levels of comfort and pricing. Most lodges consist of a number of buildings scattered across a plot of land.

You can choose to ‘mix and match’ the different styles of accommodation during your safari.

Holiday of a lifetime. Amazing We just returned from a holiday of our lifetime. AFRICAN SAFARI IN TANZANIA. I can’t thank enough ANGEL SIMONS OF EARTHLIFE EXPEDITIONS, who organised such a wonderful holiday for us. While setting up our itinerary we called and spoke to her several times and always she has been so helpful and dealt with all our queries professionally. she is extremely accommodating and will always go the extra mile to help and give the appropriate advise. We lover her. On top of all this she gave us a very good offer without compromising their high standards. Earthlife expeditions is high recommended and one of the best if not the best. The hotels, lodges and the tents which was given to us is just excellent. In Arusha we stayed in Kibo palace, in Tarangire stayed in escarpment lodge, singing grass luxury tents in Central Serengeti and Bao bao tent in North Serengeti. They are all amazing. Dominic from Earthlife our captain, driver, friend, philosopher and guide is just amazing. He is so knowledgable and possibly knows everything about animals and animal behaviour. We learnt a lot from him. He drove us tirelessly miles and miles to show us the animals and because of him we were able to see the big 5s. Angel also included hot air balloon in the package via a company called Miracle and it was one of the best and we had an amazing experience. All the people we met during our trip was so helpful and will definitely recommend to book safari through Earthlife. We will go back again.

Book with Earthlife Expeditions. You won't regret it. I cannot say enough about Earthlife Expeditions. Every aspect of our once-in-a-lifetime safari worked perfectly. Catherine and Inno planned an itinerary that was spot-on for our every request. Communication was seamless, everything handled quickly and correctly. The lodging and food were great. (We stayed at Mara Bush Camp in Maasai Mara; Kontiki Camp in Northern Serengeti, Lahia Tented Camp in Central/Western Serengeti, Melia at Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire Sopa Lodge in Tarangire). I'll write individual reviews for the camps/lodges. The logistics were perfect. And our guide!!!! Paul is absolutely AMAZING. He knows so much about the animals, was a great driver and spotter, and even fun to spend time with. He's now a friend for life. The price was right on this safari (far more reasonable that working with a US provider, Earthlife is Tanzania owned). Earthlife was recommended to me by a friend who facilitates photography workshops and I'll be forever grateful for her recommendation. You can't go wrong with Earthlife Expeditions.

Incredible lifetime experience courtesy of Daniel Balela We had just finished an amazing 9 day safari starting at Arusha National Park then Trangire National Park, Serengeti (Central & Western) and finally Ngorongoro Crater. Our driver/guide, Daniel Balela has done an incredible job providing us with a lifetime experience to see all the Big 5 and Ugly 5. Not only that he provided us with the experience but also really provided us (particularly our daughters) with all the detail attention to make sure that everyone has the best experience.

Trip of a lifetime Short version: EarthLife - and in particular their guide Herman - is amazing. Our group of six had a phenomenal once-in-a-lifetime trip with Herman as our guide, and I couldn’t recommend them more highly. We saw not only the big five, but also hippos, cheetahs, wildebeest, zebra, giraffes, mongeese, hyenas, a myriad of different antelope types, crocodiles, jackals, baboons, monkeys, warthogs, foxes, dozens of exquisite birds, and more. I’ve done a good amount of trekking / touring (Galapagos, safaris elsewhere in Africa, Himalayas), and Herman’s probably the best guide I’ve ever had. Book with EarthLife, seriously. Long version: if you’re like me, you want lots of details on safari operators, since it’s not a small investment. Key points: Guides: your guide is really what determines your experience on Safari - you’re in the car with them for potentially upwards of 8 hours a day, they’re driving / navigating everywhere, they find and spot animals, share their knowledge of animals, and are the liaisons with lodges. A good tour guide is the difference between just getting shuffled around to see animals alongside every other truck, and having a truly magical experience of wildlife and learning about the natural world. The guides are what differentiate EarthLife from competitors. Our guide Herman was absolutely incredible. He has 18+ years of experience guiding across Tanzania, did a related degree (ask him about his research on elephants - fascinating!), and was a wealth of knowledge about the animals, birds, plants, insects, and ecosystem of Tanzania. He was able to identify everything we saw by sight (including dozens of birds!), and his knowledge of the habitat and animal behavior (and his astonishingly good eyesight) meant that we often were the first vehicle to find highly sought after animals in various states - we even saw lions mating! We also had a photographer in our group, and Herman has an artists eye - he always positioned the vehicle for the best unobstructed shot, was thoughtful about where the light was good, and knew how to set our photographer up for success. Herman was also just a delightful human - genuinely kind and thoughtful and we left Tanzania with a new friend in Herman. We had friends who toured with EarthLife with a different guide and similarly raved about their guide, which is a good sign. Price: we had sought quotes from 5-6 different operators using the same parameters. EarthLife wasn’t the cheapest quote but they also weren’t the most expensive. Having gone with them, I feel confident in saying that they were the best value of all the quotes we got. They thought about how to optimize our itinerary to minimize time lost to travel, they were able to make modifications to fit our budget, and made sure we were seeing the things that really mattered. At the end of our trip all of us felt that the price was absolutely worth every dollar spent. Lodging and food: there’s a finite number of lodges and so a lot of the operators use the same ones, so it’s really about finding the right ones for your preference. We requested mid range accommodation with an emphasis on tented camps in the parks. EarthLife made recommendations accordingly and then customized based on feedback we gave, or as availability changed. Every place we stayed was great and was true to what we had requested. Food was excellent across the board (shout out to Chef Paul at Acacia Migration who made the best meals we had in all Tanzania) and by the end of seven days we were grateful that EarthLife did hot lunches instead of just boxed sandwiches for a week straight. Having warm chicken and pasta with fresh fruit and coffee for lunch in the bush just feels luxurious. Customer service: We worked with Inno to plan our safari, and he was helpful and accommodating. We had a lot of questions and specific parameters or complications (people arriving on different days which necessitated multiple airport transfers, etc), and they were patient and thorough in answering all our questions and adjusting our itinerary to make sure we really had a trip that worked for us. Payment processes and policies were clearly communicated and with a variety of options depending on your comfort and preference. Safety: I took this trip at five months pregnant and had a lot of questions and concerns accordingly - the places you’re going are remote and on often very bumpy roads! EarthLife was incredible and I felt so at ease with them. Herman was an incredible driver and managed to make the often bumpy roads be as smooth as possible, and he was very attuned to needs - checking in on how I was doing, making sure I had a certain seat in the truck to minimize jostling, and navigating based on not only wildlife but also weather and road conditions. It’s also very important that vehicles are maintained well - you’ll see trucks that are being fixed roadside which would mess up your trip! Herman maintained the vehicle meticulously - checking it every night - and we were always confident we would not be in that situation. EarthLife also carries AMREF Flying Doctors Insurance so that if we had needed medical attention, there would have been evacuation options available. Other: they’re ethical and honest! We saw a number of other tour operators who we were unimpressed with. They harassed the animals, were inconsiderate of other vehicles / groups, and generally seemed to treat Safari as a “check the box exercise” where you just see all the big five as quick as possible and then leave. That’s not Herman. He was super conscientious about engaging with the wildlife and others, patient and thorough to ensure we got the most of our trip, and all around great. They were also very up front about expectations for everything (including things like tips, or where you should negotiate at markets). For example, we inquired about a tour of a Masai village and they explained the cost as well as what people like and what people don’t like about the tours, so we could make an informed decision. We ended up doing the tour and we’re glad we did, but also were grateful that Herman had given us very clear expectations of what to expect! EarthLife is also a Tanzanian owned and operated company (the founder was a former guide himself), so you are supporting fully local interests instead of foreign investors. Overall: I cannot recommend them more highly and encourage anyone looking to do a safari in Tanzania to book with EarthLife. Thank you again to EarthLife - and especially Herman - for a truly magical experience that we will never forget.

Unforgettable experience! Since preparing this trip we had Miguel Almeida Bruno as our consultant and I must say that he advised us in the best possible way so that our safari ran flawlessly. From airport receptions, domestic flights, lodges and camp tents, everything met our expectations and everything went without any surprises or surprises. All the staff were super helpful and concerned about our well-being, starting with Jonh, going through Inno and highlighting our guide Makuru who was "family" during these days who accompanied us. I can only say that the 6 days of safari were memorable and the memories we made lasted a lifetime. Thank you to Earthlife Expeditions and of course to those of you who dealt directly with us, made this experience unique! Cheers!

Excellent and unforgettable Miguel organized the trip beautifully, choosing the lodges well and planning the itinerary for this 7-day adventure. Locally, our guide couldn't have been better. Balela explained everything to us about the fauna, flora and local culture. Always very attentive to provide us with the best experience and didn't rest until we had seen the big 5! Congratulations and thanks for the good times.
